Teresa Barnett
Teresa was admitted as a solicitor in 2008 but has practised Family Law exclusively since 2005 giving her 19 years of experience.

Teresa advises clients on all aspects of family law, with a particular focus on complex financial disputes arising out of divorce, civil partnership dissolution and the separation of cohabiting couples. Her financial cases often have an international dimension, at times involving trusts. When her cases have a business element, such as a family business or shareholding, she works closely with an accountant to value the business and look at various options for the parties to consider on settlement. Teresa also deals with pre and post nuptial agreements, cohabitation agreements and disputes.
Teresa has experience in cases requiring emergency protection for children and adults. Her practice encompasses disputes about how children should spend their time, relocation cases and she provides advice on complex children issues where allegations of abuse have been raised. Acting for the husband was a discretionary beneficiary of a significant family trust. All wealth was trust derived.

Representing a father who successfully defended allegations of domestic abuse leading to no findings of fact being made against him.

Representing the intervener in a s37 application in respect of an inherited property.

Secured a legal fees order and periodical payments for a wife.

Acting for the father in acrimonious and protracted Children Act proceedings following mother's unilateral decision to move with the children from Surrey to Wales. The case involved the appointment of a Guardian and a fact-finding hearing leading to the children being transferred to the care of the father.

Career
After training in London, Teresa joined a Legal 500 firm in the South West. She subsequently returned to London joining another Legal 500 firm before working as a Locum and joining Setfords as a Consultant.

In order to solidify her specialist experience, Charlene obtained a master’s degree from King’s College London in Child Studies, thus enhancing her specialism in dealing with child protection issues.
She is a robust and highly competent advocate and conducts her own advocacy to ensure that clients have a consistent service and standard of care.
Charlene has a genuine desire to go over and above to assist individuals in their time of need and consistently goes over and beyond to achieve results and has received consistent praise from peers and clients.
Charlene has gained first-hand experience as a foster carer looking after some of the most vulnerable children in our society.
In her spare time Charlene enjoys going on holiday and the odd trip to the gym.
